Senator Padilla to Deliver Spanish Response to State of the Union Address, Highlighting Administration Failures and a Better Path Forward

There will be two different versions of the State of the Union today –  but only one will be the truth.

While President Trump will try to paint a rosy picture, pretending that everything is fine, our communities know the reality. Bills are too high. Paychecks are too low. Families are struggling with rising costs and constant uncertainty, while masked and militarized federal agents are roaming our communities violating Constitutional rights on a daily basis.

United States Senator Alex Padilla will speak directly and honestly to the people, acknowledging the real challenges our communities face and charting a better path forward. He will address the failures of this administration – from an economic agenda that benefits billionaires while working families face higher health care and living costs, to the misuse of federal enforcement agencies against immigrants and U.S. citizens alike, to ongoing attacks on the right to vote.

“Rent is too high. Groceries cost more. Health care feels further out of reach and too many in our neighborhoods are living with fear, fear of militarized enforcement actions, fear of attacks on our civil rights, and fear of efforts to undermine our right to vote,” said Vanessa Aramayo, President of Somos El Voto. “We know what our families are experiencing because we live it every day.”

“We need accountability, stability, and a government that works for the people – not one that fuels fear and undermines constitutional rights,” said Efrain Escobedo, Somos el Voto Boardmember.  There is a better path forward, one that lowers costs for working families, safeguards our democracy, protects civil rights, and reins in abuses of power. That path is built by the people.  That path must include Latino voters.”

Los Angeles County is home to one of the largest Latina/o populations in the country. When our voices are heard and our communities are organized, we are an unstoppable force for democracy and justice. That is why Spanish language leadership and engagement matter. Representation is not symbolic. It is strategic, powerful, and necessary.

As the saying goes, “Solo el pueblo salva al pueblo,” and only the people can protect democracy. We call on our communities to tune in to Senator Padilla’s remarks, stay informed, and continue building collective power across Los Angeles County. Together, we will defend our rights, uplift our voices, and shape the future we deserve.
