Vote YES on Proposition 50

Protect Representation. Protect Resources. Protect Our Voice.

This November, California voters will decide Proposition 50—a statewide ballot measure that could shape who represents us in Congress and what priorities define our future.

What Proposition 50 Does

Proposition 50 would temporarily allow the California Legislature to redraw congressional district maps for the 2026, 2028, and 2030 elections, returning to the independent Citizens Redistricting Commission process after the 2030 Census.

Prop 50 is a critical response to partisan redistricting in states like Texas and Florida—moves that have shifted the balance of power in Congress. Prop 50 ensures California’s representation keeps pace with these national changes.

What’s at Stake

Prop 50 is more than a technical change—it’s about who has power in Washington and whose priorities are heard.

When congressional districts change, representation changes—and so does who fights for our funding.

Federal programs that depend on fair representation:

  • Education: Title I funding for low-income schools and Pell Grants for first-generation college students.
  • Healthcare: Medicaid and Affordable Care Act programs serving working families.
  • Housing: Section 8 vouchers and Community Development Block Grants that help renters and seniors.
  • Climate and Infrastructure: Federal funding for clean air, safe water, and resilient communities.
  • Jobs and Small Businesses: Workforce training, small business grants, and economic development programs.

The outcome of Prop 50 could help determine which party controls Congress, shaping the future of these critical investments for California and Los Angeles County.

Impact on Latina/o Communities

Latinas/os make up nearly 40% of California’s population, yet remain underrepresented in Congress.

  • Locally (Los Angeles County): Redistricting can determine whether Latina/o voters stay united in districts where they can elect candidates who reflect their experiences. Redesigning new districts could change the level of political voice of community members.
  • Nationally: California holds more congressional seats than any other state. Any change in California affects national priorities—from immigration reform to federal education aid that supports first-generation students and mixed-status families to access to affordable healthcare options.

For Latina/o voters, Prop 50 is about protecting our voice, our representation, and the federal resources that sustain our neighborhoods.

Why You Should Vote YES

Representation Matters: Prop 50 protects the political voice of Latina/o communities across California.

Protect Local Funding: Temporary map changes can help preserve federal resources for schools, clinics, housing, and job programs.

Shape Congress: Your vote helps ensure California continues to have strong voices in Washington fighting for our communities.
